Description

My half of a trade for iATC.

Two Japanese red-crowned cranes.  I'm not sure they can actually be found in that foggy mountain terrain, but I thought it looked pretty, so there they be ;)  Also, according to google translate, the writing is Japanese for "crane".  Hopefully it's "crane the bird" and not "crane the construction machine".  Fingers crossed...

Lovely work, and there is so much depth in this little painting!

I really like the symmetry of the painting, with the two cranes facing each other and feathers, I can imagine them performing their courtship dance and arriving at this moment for a second, only to change and dance some more. The two birds look quite realistic, especially around the eyes and beaks.

The only thing I might have changed is actually to increase the thickness of some of the lines, possibly around the moon, but not by much. I like the use of thin lines especially around the tail feathers to add detail. The only other thing I might suggest would be to vary the trees on the hillside a little more as they appear too similar to each other to me. I like the use of fog in the valleys to suggest early morning. The style is quite reminiscent of the ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock prints), and I like that the colours are subdued like the style.

Oh yes, and the kanji is spot-on - tsuru for crane. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> Keep up the great work!
